Discover...

If a composer could say what he had to say in words he would not bother trying to say it in music.  ~Gustav Mahler

If only we Indians knew how many people in our country are trying to express themselves this way. 1.3 billion is our current population, and India won all of 6 medals in the Olympics. Of course it was a proud moment for all of us watching from the comfort of our homes, but 6 out of 1.3 billion (I’m aware it’s easy to point fingers with a beer in hand, so do read on)?

There are innumerable responses explaining the above question, the primary one being there’s no platform for us to exploit the talent we may have in these fields, what with the sheer number of citizens, and also the obvious fact that we are an academically oriented country.

But what if we could change things? We’re struggling to step off the well-trodden paths of medicine and engineering. Aah yes accountancy and law too. Perhaps sport is an area where such change is difficult to implement, but all you musicians, music listeners, and music well-wishers, welcome to the change.

Welcome musicians, to the perfect place for you to showcase the awesome stuff you've come up with and are wondering how to put out there on the low budget that is characteristic of our species.
Welcome music listeners, its time you stop hunting for new music in weird, remote places, everything you want is right here with us.
And welcome all you odd people who neither create nor listen to music but still want something good to happen (if there are any such), worry not, for this is the good thing you've been waiting for.

The Post Modern Indian Renaissance

We stand at a cross-roads, a passing of the vanguard. The youth of the country, are coming of age. Not the upper-class, not the upper-middle class, they have been exposed to modern western culture and values for at least a generation. I talk now, of the under privileged, the bourgeois. Finally the values that were developed in the 60's in the western world are percolating down to the masses.

Children today, have grown up in a free country. Aware of their rights and duties, and also that the shackles of social requirement, can be bent, if not broken. Backward views are being discarded. Outrage against corruption and indecent practices has become a social duty. Our culture is becoming a single unifying factor for the land. The best from all over the world is being hungrily consumed and made our own.

The internet has percolated to small towns now. Only the villages remain un touched. Because of 3g internet, sharing media over the air is finally becoming a reality. The youth get thrown into a boiling pot of diversity, in colleges, and through work culture. The Indian dream, that we shall not be broken but a single people will be realised in our times. People are finally free, independent and aware.

From this background, has emerged a new breed of people. The doers, the artists. Every child, has either sung, or danced, or played cricket, or written something, or made something, or done something, or been part of something. Every child knows, that the only true satisfaction, and calm emerges from creation. Not from making money, or from taking advantage of their peers. With proper opportunity, this boiling pot will explode. Into a melding of all the diversity present in India. Every settlement shall have artists, philosophers, comedians, musicians. In the world of dog eat dog, a platform needs to exist, for this voice to reach everyone.

The need has come for an independent, freely accessible platform for showcasing this culture, and we must be that platform. We are BC-Radio. We must Be the Change. The refuge of the free, the voice of the people. We will be the change. And through us, and others like us, the country will get a voice. So that the next generation, our children, gets to choose their own values, and realises the rich and vibrant cultural fabric of today's Indian society.

We envision a continous showcase of all art and artforms present in India. That we can proudly face the world, and claim our rightful place in society, as a hub of culture, equality, peace and fraternity.

Let us take a stand today. Let us do. For in it, lies our salvation and our peace of mind.
